Nature, the Greatest Teacher of All

We’re very excited and honoured to have Dean Kelly speaking at this year’s AGM.

Dean is a proud Aboriginal man and a passionate voice for nature. He’s a Cultural Leader of the La Perouse community and also works across Sydney with the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage and NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service as an Indigenous Community Liaison Officer.

The NAIDOC Week theme this year is Heal Country, and is very close to Dean’s heart. He will share his culture, experience and wisdom on the importance of our connection and relationship with nature.

“We’ve become very separated,” Dean Kelly says “It’s all about material stuff now, taking from the land and mother… but we are all part of nature, so we need to start looking after it and giving back.”

Dean believes nature is the greatest teacher and that there are many things we can learn from our environment, that is why he shares his knowledge and culture with younger generations. He has worked with many organisations like Youth off the Streets, aiming to reconnect young aboriginal people with their culture and country.

Dean will discuss how nature is talking to us in relation to climate change, what signals we can recognise from our changing environment and how to look after country, so that it looks after us.
