Christmas beetles in June

Gymea Community Centre 2 Avenel Rd, Gymea Bay, NSW, Australia

Many of the 35 Christmas beetle species found throughout Australia are brightly coloured or iridescent. Sadly, these beautiful beetles are disappearing.
Associate Professor Tanya Latty from the University of Sydney is exploring why, and what we can do to help. She is an entomologist with a special interest in insect behaviour and ecology. If you're interested in finding out more, this talk at the Gymea Community Centre on Wednesday 19 June is free. The event is hosted by the Australia Plant Society Sutherland group, and visitors are very welcome.

Walk a hidden gem in the Royal, and check out coal waste material on the way

Red Cedar Flat picnic area Red Cedar Flat, Lady Wakehurst Drive, Lilyvale, NSW, Australia

All welcome! Please join us - Saturday 1 June. We'll be walking in the southern part of the Royal National Park, around the Hacking (Deeban) River and Camp Gully Creek. This is one of the lesser known and hidden parts of the park, adjacent to the beautiful Lady Wakehurst Drive. Coal waste is visible through this area, but it is still quite beautiful. It is also somewhat eerie. The walk is free, but numbers are strictly limited. You'll need to register - please click on the link for more info.
