It’s good catching up and meeting others who care about our local environment, and environmental issues more broadly. As we settle into the year, with the State election behind us, the SSEC Board is planning more regular member meetings, with the first on Sunday, 18 June, at 10am at the Audley Dance Hall and Cafe.
This is a chance to exchange ideas, and find out more about what’s been happening behind the scenes with campaigns, advocacy, our activities and upcoming events.
A lot has been happening – NPWS has just released their mountain bike plans for the Royal, (as well as platypus in the Hacking River). Sutherland Shire Council is preparing its Climate Change Policy, and will soon be starting work on a whole new Urban Tree, Bushland, and Biodiversity Strategy. Council has called for submissions about its operational plan, where funding is allocated. The EPA has released a review of Peabody’s license to pollute. All of these take time to review.
Please bring along your ideas to the meeting about what you would like SSEC to engage with. We have a few interesting events in mind, including a couple of films we’d like to put on, depending on feedback from members.
We’d also welcome anyone wishing to volunteer assistance with events, or in other ways. Everything SSEC does is dependent on volunteers.
We’re planning to have lunch at the Café afterwards, maybe at the lovely Dance Hall balcony. For those inclined a short bush walk is proposed along Lady Carrington Drive after lunch.
Bring a coffee and a snack from the cafe to the meeting if you like.
