Friends of Towra Point

This group was officially launched in February 1997 by the then NSW Minister for Environment, Pam Allan (below). The Wildlife Preservation Society, are actively involved in this group. You can see the volunteer calendar for the Friends of Towra by clicking on Activities.

Major events since 1995 included the presentation of certificates for volunteers at the unveiling of new signage by the then Patron, Mr Stephen Mutch MP as well as a major working bee to remove rubbish from the Reserve as part of 1998 Clean Up Australia Day. The Friends were also successful in obtaining a grant to undertake bush regeneration in the Reserve using volunteers from the Australian Trust for Conservation Volunteers in late 1996.

They began initial clearing of lantana in the vicinity of Weedy Pond. Details of additional work in this area can be seen here.
