DON'T LET JOE'S DREAM DIE

Joe Santa Maria, the owner of Joe’s Milk Bar since 1946, had a dream…

"Joes Milk Bar", Jim Flood

The dream that one day the height of the blocks of units on the cliff top from The Alley to Cronulla Park would be scaled back from 7 storeys to 3 or 4 at street level. So before he sold his oceanfront site at the bottom of the Kingsway on the Esplanade he made sure the planning controls were set up to do just that.

Everyone can see how right he was as the Sea Level replacement for his 1926 Whitby Cliffs refreshment rooms is only 2-3 storeys.

But the recent approval of two 6 storey developments on top of Whitby Cliffs will surely destroy Joe’s Dream. And also permanently destroy the natural amenity of our prized Cronulla Beaches National Surfing Reserve, by doubling the size of the overshadowing not only of the ocean and beaches but of Cronulla Park and the heritage listed rock pools and Esplanade.

Register your opposition to this development by signing the petition in local surf shops, cafes, etc.
